Montell Jordan, the voice behind the ‘90s anthem “This Is How We Do It,” recently confirmed he is cancer-free. The announcement brought relief to fans, yet the full story behind his recovery reveals a far more intense health battle.
After first beating prostate cancer, the disease returned in an aggressive form, pushing the 57-year-old singer to rethink every part of his daily life.
Jordan first received a Stage 1 prostate cancer diagnosis in early 2024 after a routine PSA test raised concern. Doctors moved quickly, and he underwent a radical prostatectomy. Initial results suggested the cancer had been removed successfully. For months, everything appeared stable.
An Aggressive Return of Prostate Cancer

Nearly a year later, follow-up scans delivered unexpected news. The cancer had returned. This time, it had spread to his lymph nodes and was classified as Stage 2 prostate cancer. Jordan described the recurrence as “aggressive,” a word that reflected both the speed and seriousness of the diagnosis.
The updated treatment plan centered on radiation therapy. Jordan later called it a “rollercoaster,” a word that captured both the physical strain and the emotional swings that came with it. Fatigue set in regularly, and discomfort was part of the routine. Beyond the physical side effects, the waiting and uncertainty carried their own weight.
Everything shifted on Christmas Day 2025.
“Christmas Day, we found out that we are undetected, cancer-free,” he said. “We're finally at an all-clear, and I feel fantastic.”
He has described that moment as “surreal.” At home, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, he received a phone call delivering news that once felt far out of reach. “It's almost like it's still unbelievable that we're at this place right now, but we're just super, super grateful.”
The timing made it even more memorable. It marked his second remission.
A Complete Lifestyle Overhaul
After confronting cancer twice, Jordan decided his daily habits needed to change in a lasting way. He cut sugar and dairy from his diet and made consistent exercise part of his routine. His focus was practical: lower inflammation, reinforce his body’s resilience, and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
Kristin Jordan followed the same path. She has emphasized how approaching health as a team strengthens accountability and helps sustain discipline over time.
“Everything that we do, we have to do in tandem and in unison in order for it to last,” Kristin said. “We'd better take care of these temples that we have because we only get one, right?”
Jordan has expressed confidence moving forward and does not live in fear of another diagnosis. Instead, he focuses on daily habits that support overall wellness.
Raising Awareness

Jordan’s openness serves a broader purpose. Black men face a significantly higher risk of developing prostate cancer compared to other groups. Early detection through PSA testing remains one of the most effective tools for catching the disease at a treatable stage.
By sharing his experience, Jordan encourages men to prioritize routine screenings and avoid delaying doctor visits. Lifestyle adjustments, according to Kristin, also play a role in long-term health. “These lifestyle changes helped in our journey, but they will help limit us from having other sicknesses or other issues further down the line.”
Montell Jordan’s experience highlights how quickly prostate cancer can shift from manageable to aggressive. His story also shows the impact of early detection, timely treatment, and disciplined lifestyle choices.
Now cancer-free, he continues to advocate for awareness while maintaining the habits that support his recovery.
